OK, folks... Sorry for the long delay, but hopefully the wait was worth it.
The attached zip file contains Windows-format 256-color cursor sets (Normal Select cursor, Help Select cursor, Working in Background cursor) of the following:
- Sunburst F5
- Blonde F5
- 3-point F-style
- Light sunburst F4
- Pancake flat-top
- Flying-V mando
- Zook
In addition, there is an animated cursor (.ani) of a rotating sunburst F5, which you should use as the Busy cursor.
(Also, I think there is a dreadnaught guitar cursor, although I haven't made a full set of cursors for it yet.)
I have the sunburst F5 set installed on my laptop, along with the rotating F5. Hope all you other mando freaks will enjoy these!
PS - Sorry Mac folks and Linux folks, I have not had time to figure out how to convert these to those formats yet. Any of you computer whizzes know how?
Enjoy,
Brian

I believe that the posting guidlines for the Mandolin Cafe forbid cursing.

where the lefties? or an A other than the pancake?
I have the same thoughts!
I love my A too AND I am a lefty who plays righty.
I opened some of these mando .cur files in IconArt.
It is easy to make minor mods on the original .cir files and make your own A by chopping off the curls on an F.
To change to a lefty you can horizontally flip the image files. (>>"ICON">>"FLIP horizontally")
Save as .cur with a new file name.
You can download the free-ware Iconart at

Cool cursors!

Thanks for all your work Brian, can't wait to install them. But perhaps you could help tell me where to extract them to so that the control panel sees them. Your reply to TomC is the second half of the process.
Thanks,

OK, I've started working on an A4 and a fiddle... Hope to have them out soon.
Thanks to you people who posted the instructions on how to install the cursors... I haven't checked this thread since last night, so I missed out on your questions.
Honestly, the process for creating these icons is very simple. Although I did create the first-generation 16-color icons from scratch, the newer ones were created using IconArt, a freeware icon/cursor app.
Here's the process:
1. Save your favorite mando photo as a .JPG file on your PC.
2. Using Paint or another photo editing app, remove the background by painting it white.
3. Rotate the image to the left by 45 degrees (requires Photoshop or something more powerful than Paint).
4. In IconArt, import from your saved (rotated) image.
5. Change the background to the "blank" background color, define the "click point", and save as a .cur file!
I'm sure some of you guys with more time can add to the mando cursor collection...
Thanks,
Brian

[Thought I'd give this post its yearly bump...]
Got the mid-winter blues? Bored with the monotony of your current mandolin existence? Do you need something to "kick it up a notch"?
We have just the thing you need - mando cursors! Download these free mando cursors, and change your mouse pointer from a boring, conformist white arrow to one of these mandos:
Classic F5
F4
3-point
Pancake
Blonde F5
Bazouki
You can even change your "wait" cursor to a spinning F5...
Give it a try!
