Dave Harvey told me at workshop he removed the finish from the neck of his mandolin and it even improved the tone as well as the playability. Would this be more from the player's ability and perception or would it really effect the overall tone of the instrument to some degree? http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif

After I had my mandolin for a while I removed the finish from the back of the neck. Though there was a definite difference in playability I honestly can't say I noticed any difference in tone. I do like the feel so much that when I oredered my new Yellowstone from Weber, I had them leave the finish off the back of the neck. They put some color in it but no gloss, it turned out wonderfully.
Logic would tell me there would be no tonal difference but experience might say somthing else.
