The Lonesome River Band is headed to my neck of the woods with Tony Rice next month. I know this is a no-brainer I'm going to the show. But I am not all that familiar with LRB and I am curious as what to expect. Am I in for a treat?

Also who's their current Mando player?

Thanks

Darren, it is a treat to watch them play. I saw them in October and we noticed that they did a whole set in Bb, never stopped to change capo positions for banj* or guitar. It was cool.

I have seen LRB around 6 times, including last fall when they played with TOny Rice. Mins before they started signing Tony pulled up in a brand new Mustang GT jet(its a car), pulled out his guitar and stepped up on stage. It was an awesome show to say the least. LRB is my favor band, they play some great stuff and their shows are flawless. I know the guys pretty well too. I have actually played Jeff "Gibson Adam Steffy Signature" mando that gibson gave to him to play. It is pretty sweet. Jeff is a great picker....when you see him up there he looks so calm and cool...just another day at work. Hope you have a good time at the show. Ill be seeing them in the next couple months.

Jeff Parker is their current Mando picker and lead/tenor singer. He's a great picker......very clean, very melodic.....rhythm like a metronome. His house and music shop is about 4 miles from my parents house. I've known Jeff since I was in High school. Our families pick when I get a chance to get home on Military leave.

Go out and buy the "Window of Time" CD. It's a keeper and gives you a good taste of their current sound. The band's been together over 20 years and has fostered such greats Dan Tyminski, Kenny Smith, Don Rigsby, Tim Austin and Ronnie Bowman.

Their current lineup (along with Jeff Parker) includes Sammy Shelor (one of the top 4 banjo pickers in the country, in my opinion), Brandon Rickman (Guitar - lead & harmony vocals), John Wade (Electric/AcousticBass) and Mike Hartgrove (Fiddle).

A very tight, driving Bluegrass Band that mixes Old and New grass. I'm not sure how they arrange their "LRB only gigs", but at the festivals, during a 40 minute set, they may spend a total of 2 minutes to introduce all the members of the band. Translated......these boys put more songs into a 40 minute set than any other group out there.

TOP NOTCH playing, singing, and groove.

They've done several shows with TR and they all get the job done......They do alot of the old TR tunes we all love (from the Bluegrass Album Band days) with Jeff or Brandon doing the lead singing. Tony's guitar is as powerful as ever when he guest spots with LRB.

Tell Jeff Parker "Jeff Dodson" says howdy and I'll see him in Live Oak, Florida at the LRB Music fest April 8-10.

Be sure to post a review of the show and let us know if the new LRB CD is available (at their shows) yet. Also see if Jeff Parker's solo release is available.

You're in for the treat of a lifetime if you've never seen them live.

Darren, you didn't mention it in your original post. Are you in Michigan or Illinois? I see same date/venue information on LRB and TR for The ARK, in Ann Arbor on 23 April, and another in Chicago on the 24th?
