Known thickness of maple fpr back plate, but what about other woods , like cherry or walnut or sycamore

Dennis, make them much the same. They will turn out well enough and from the experience you get you will be able to judge for yourself on future instruments.
Dennis, very sound advice from Michael, I do that same carving on all hardwood backs but a tad thinner on the harder woods # # #Ron C
