Just wondering if the indentations on the inside of the backboard are normal and are usually sanded out in most kits.

Id also just like to confirm with all yee experienced builders that im going about this whole process correctly

I plan to first (using a scraper) get out all the machine burns and indentations off of the backboard and fine tune the top, and then sand it a good amount until i have the thickness where i want it
Then im going to glue the tonebars on and adjust them until they are content.
Next glue the wood lining on for the backboard
Glue backboard onto rim.
trim around the edge untl it is flush with the rim
After that i route the backboard with a dremel extension tool and apply binding to either sides.

Does it matter if I do tone bars or lining first? Sorry bout the numerous newbster posts, just dont wanna screw this up #http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

You might want to install a neck somewhere in the process. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
I would use something a little more aggressive than a scraper to get tooling marks out and use the scraper afterwards, but that is not a make or break thing.

haha yea a neck would be nice....:p
I think ill stick with the scraper only because id be more afraid to damage the wood considering im not very adept with hand carving tools yet.

You probably don't need to use any carving tools on the IV kit. I didn't. I (now don't any of you luthiers cringe) used a random orbital sander to get most of the gouge marks out, then I switched to sanding by hand.
I am not an experienced luthier (I have built a few instruments from scratch and then the IV kit), but I have made my living working with wood for the last 13 years, so I was comfortable using the sander.
The primary thing to do is use the method that you are comfortable with. It is not a race so just take your time and keep asking questions (although many of the answers can be found by searching through old discussions). Everyone here loves to see the successful outcome of these kits.

Actually, I wouldn't even mind seeing UNsuccessful outcomes of the kits...that way, if I screw up, I'll at least know I'm not alone! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
