I have an Eastman md615 and it's great for bluegrass, and even celtic (I use pro plec 1.5's and it makes the tone a little warmer and less tinty sounding if I grip a little tighter) but I was looking for an amped, minisculely fuzzy jazz sound (like the sound on Jazz Mandolin Project) without buying another mandolin for the tone and an amp.
I was experimenting with the two amps I have; one being a Smokey Amp (http://www.smokeyamps.com) mini guitar amp and when I plugged it in (Mcintyre feather pickup) it sounded very very close to the sound I was looking for, without the little reverb, which could be remedied if you drop the smokey amp into a large coffee can (empty of course).

These mini amps are fun little toys, but also gives your mandolin a boost in volume for those intimate jam sessions.
