Can anyone suggest a couple of good starter tabs for a banjo/mandolin that I have just acquired? I am a low-grade banjo picker primarily.

You can go to co-mando.com. There is a tabedit viewer you can download for free.
There are tons of tabedit files you also can download. I like playing rags on the mando-banjo.
