Hey everybody. I was just wondering if anyone knew where I could find notated (or tabbed) Dave Apollon songs. The only song I've found is his Russian Rag which is in the Fiddler's Fakebook, but after happily practicing this tune for hours, I need to find more Apollon. Thanks.

Get some software that slows the music down (Audacity is freeware) and transcribe it yourself. #What you invest in time will be more than made up in the knowledge gained and your ear will learn to hear much better.
Any good player has spent a lot of time transcribing and learning how great players play.

Great advice as usual....

Thanks for the advice. Those blazing fast 16th note runs will definitely be less intimidating to figure out when I can slow them down. Do you know any other programs that slow tempo besides audacity though? It seems audacity doesn't read files in the mp4/m4a format and most of my music files happen to be in that format.

I just use windows media player on my PC. Copy the tune from the CD to your music folder first, media player won't play a cd slow. I've even used it on sound clips from album samples. When you set the playback speed to slow, it plays back half speed and in tune so you can easily learn a fast tune. I've learned lots of tunes over the last year using this.

I like the trial of the Amazing Slow Downer, but unfortunately it'll only let you play the first 1/4 of a song. They're asking $45 for the full version! Very expensive for such a simple program. Do you know any good freeware equivalents?

Ooh, and as to Windows Media Player, I think that might be a bust for me since I've got a Mac. Any other suggestions for slowing down songs? You guys have been great, but I'm still at a loss at how to slow all my mp4 files (or at least more than a 1/4 of a song).

How do you get WMP to playback slowly?

For WMP, use the play pulldown and set play speed to slow. On the latest version I think you click anywhere on the top bar to get at the play selections. It only works on files so you have to copy any cd tracks to your hard drive first using WMP.

Hmm. No "play speed" in my Play pulldown. Do I need to be using a pay version of WMP to get this?

Download the latest version, WMP updates are always free from Microsoft.
