It plays great! I thought I might have a problem adapting to the neck after playing my MK Deluxe (radius neck), but I'm not having much of a problem. There is quite a difference in tone when I compare it to the MK; I can't really say either one is 'better', they're just 'different'.
But the setup is much nicer and it plays a lot easier than my MK. (Did I mention that it plays great?)
Wooo-Hooo!

Welcome to "The Family".
357, I'm sure one day you will join the family also.
What's keeping you from getting one? Funds?

Yup! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif #http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif

Actually, Im this close to sending Steve at Giana the 30& deposit they require for a 614. I could probably pay it off out of next months SS check. No instant gratification there, but at least it would be a commitment. Im 64 going on 13.

BTW Bill. Your mandolin is beautiful.

Ha! I knew someone would mention the brick. But, I've run into so many brick walls with my playing, I thought it was appropriate.

357, send the deposit. It'll give you more incentive, knowing you've got one on the way. You'll have it paid off in no time. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Go for it slowly 357. If you make a Christmas present (at Christmas time) the suspense will reallllllly be rewarded. BTW that's a nice lookin mando. Welcome to the family.

A shame to put such pretty wood in a mandolin - would look better in a violin, of course!

Enjoy.

357,

great choice!
I almost bought a 614 today...this is coming from a college guy, and I just bought a 615 less than 2 weeks ago.

I love the sweet sweet tone of the 614 oval holes, but I also love the clean tone of the f holes; I figure I'd start with the f's which are more versatile in my opinion, and they come out better in a group setting.

But man the 614's...I love that strength and warmth on the bottom end and the mellowness on the high end. Would be a good ballad instrument.

Let me know when you get your Eastman, I'll throw you a party (not that you'll need one when it arrives)
