I need to go to Nashville Sept 6-8 for some company training. I plan on visiting Gruhns and the Gibson Store across from the opry.
Does anybody know the hours of operation of these stores?
Any other suggestions on places to go? I'm thinking of taking the day off after the training as a vacation day and staying in Nashville to do "fun stuff".
Big Joe, any chance of a personal tour while I'm down your way?
Thanks,
-- pete

You could also hit Cotten Music and you MUST go to The Station Inn (402 12th Ave. S., Nashville, TN) for some great live music...

Give Sim Daley a call and see what he has in the white or hanging on the wall ready to play. He's very close to the OAI store. If you're looking at guitars you have to go to Cotton's. They had a Kimble there for a while. Their website will list their current inventory.

Try not to go to Gruhn on Fri or Sat. its a mob scene. The guys there do a good job at picking out the customers from the "haaayyyyy metallica plays THIS guitar!" people. weekdays are great tho.

Gruhns closes at 2 ct. I get to Nashville fairly often and I usually poke my head in the door. I love that store, the folks are great!
I also stop by the Gibson store at Shopryland, that is a must see at well. I have never been in the Church street store although I have been by there a thousand times.

The Gibson Bluegrass Showcase is open M-Sat 10 am till 9:30 pm and Sunday 11 am till 7 pm. The church street store is not open at this time. It closed several months ago.

Their URL is;
http://www.cottenmusic.com/
Located in the "West End" section of Nashville near Vanderbilt. Don't expect to see a huge store; just lots of fine instruments hanging from the walls AND ceiling! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Cotten music is a great place 3 years ago when I was in the burn center at Vanderbilt my wife went there and got me a hat. My hair was all gone. She's a good woman. Later on a trip back to the Dr. I stoped by.

Hey Biscuit...I spent some "quality" time in the Vanderbilt Stallworth Rehabilitation Center about 7 years ago. Very close to Cotten. The Vanderbilt facilities are a great place to be when you need them, but I would not recommend them for a family vacation http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif . If you come back for a check up, stop by the Opry Mills store and give me a holler.

Re: Gruhn's business hours, I was at Gruhn's last Saturday around 4:30pm, it was still open. Their website says it's open 9:30 am - 5:30 pm Central time, Monday-Saturday.

What?! Big Joe was in "rehab"!? Oh, I see it is an orthopedic rehab. No scandalous story here, nothing sensational at all.

Hey cbogle,
Cotten's isn't in the 'West End' area it's in what's called 'Hillsboro Village'. Though you're correct it IS near Vandy. The music store in the West End area is called Chamber's. They don't specialize in 'high end/acoustic vintage' ala Cotten. Just a point of reference for folks visiting from out of town.:)
