Where can you find the transcription of the original music as played on The Godfather with all the tremolos .
Thank You
Ron

Someone posted it here at the Cafe, not long ago. Search for it. I think the name of the song is "speak softly, love"

Here's the thread (http://www.mandolincafe.net/cgi-bin/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=12;t=22963;hl=godfather)

Here's the link (http://www.plami.com/temp/Il%20Padrone.htm), in case you miss it in the thread. The MP3 is lovely.

There are three Nino Rota tunes from that film that make a nice medley: Speak Softly, Love Said Goodbye, and a waltz. Sheri Mignano's tune book (http://www.mandolincafe.com/news/publish/mandolins_00141.shtml) has nice transciptions of all three.

We recently sat through our yearly viewing of the Godfather trilogy which prompted me to listen again to Tony Flores's trio version of the GF medley--I think this is my favorite adaptation of this music. (Our own Pablo H's back up guitar is like Stanley Tucci setting up Meryl Streep in the Julia Child film--Oscar worthy.)

My copy of Sheri's book (the updated one from the one Paul shows-but not the most recent edition) unfortunately does not have the transcription for 'Love Said Goodbye'. Would anyone know of a resource for that? (Besides the Andy Williams version......) I have a thin book of Nina Rota music, but it is not in there either.

thanks,

Mick

You might scour the web for popular accordion anthologies. A lot of them will have a medley of the movie themes. Although they may have some phrases and/or chords that are unplayable on the mandolin, you can probably get the gist of it by just playing the top line. If you have a guitar buddy (or other accompanist) who can read bass clef, that's where the chords and runs are. If you play the piano accordion in public you can count on someone requesting this, so that's why it's often included in accordion anthologies.

Thanks, John, for the suggestion. My wife plays accordion and I have been learning some myself. I really love it. It is true, she has a very eclectic range of sheet music, but not this yet, unfortunately. Given Paul's (now very old) post I wanted to double check if it is in one of Sheri's other compendia first. She is an accordion player by the way-with a great ear for arranging. I should probably contact her directly--she is always so helpful, I didn't want to take advantage of her generosity!

I believe the Mandolin was played by Studio Guitar legend Tommy Tedesco. Tommy always used what he called "Pelectrum" tuning for all his extra instruments ( D,G,B,E),like the top 4 strings of the Guitar,so he could sightread and perform whatever was put in front of him almost instantly, regardless of what instrument he was called to play. He had Cartage cases full of Mandolins,Banjo,Bouzouki,Gittaron',Balliaka' (sp),ect all tuned this way, in the Studio for every session.
