Hi All,
I've volunteered to "mind the store" while Craig is away, so hopefully we can get the project back up to full speed.
Since August is pratically upon us, I'm not quite sure what we should do, so (for my practice), I've created a poll in the Yahoo! group with a few suggestions on what we could do.
Please check out the poll, and if you have another suggetion or idea not listed on the poll, please post here.
Thanx,
Rob

Well, we've really got three days until the end of the month. So you could throw some songs out there to learn if ya want, and vote on them as well.
Don't know how many are going to vote. but it's worth a try and for those that don't want to vote, then they can fall in with the song that is chosen or redo an old one.
Thanks for taking up the project to help Craig out. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Hey, I'm new to the project! I just signed up today. I really need to learn some tunes. I've been playing for about four months, and am looking forward to learning whatever is thrown out there. My background is that I've played drums for 23 years, in mainly rock and metal acts, but have always (secrectly) loved bluegrass. I am open to jazz, classical, celtic, or anything. I just don't know any tunes, besides a few Nickel Creek songs I pretend I can play.

Rob, you're a hero!! I've been away about two weeks, came back yesterday. I put a vote for Off to California. I've played all of those tunes more or less, but there are several of them I'd need to learn better, like Off to California. Great to see some non-bluegrass tunes on the poll. I don't mind bluegrass at all, but I also like Irish music very much so it's great you've picked some hornpipes.

How about Dixie Hoedown? That's a good tune for beginners...

I voted for Blackberry Blossom, since I missed it being done a few months ago. I really struggle with that tune, so I need a good excuse to work on it for a few weeks straight.

I agree Kelly, I never really learned it. A few years ago I could play it ok but I haven't played it much and sort of lost it.

Email it to me...send me a PM and I will give you my email address.

yahoo groups has a maximum limit to the size of individual files of (i believe) 5MB. #that may be the problem. #otherwise, you're probably not doing anything wrong. it may just be the usual unknown problem that seems to arise intermittently with yahoo. #sure wish we could come up with a simple way to upload to the mainpage directly. #http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif

So is it "Soldier's Joy" for August? It had the most votes in the poll.

The poll closes on Monday, but it looks like "Solider's Joy" is the tune for August.

Soldier's joy won. That's cool, it was the first tune I ever learned properly and it's a great beginner tune. I hope I can learn a more complicated version of it or at least do a good recording. It's a nice simple tune to play around with.
