Has anyone tried the "Virtual Band" by Jay Buckey? #If so, what are your thoughts and opinions? #Would you recommend the purchase?

Up front this seems like a better way to practice playing with others than BIB etc.

Thanks,

Chris

Hey,
I just got it in a trade and am liking it. I like that a few of the songs actually sound like things you might want to play with people. I finally worked the solos up to 200BPM and they sound pretty cool. My wife commented that she liked these songs a lot better than all the beginner fiddle song stuff I've been doing. If you'll be patient for about a week or two more I'll sell it cheap to you or trade you for something else.

My wife got me the whole set for Christmas. I like it and so far would recommend it if you are not already an accomplished mandolinist. There are, I would estimate, about 80 basic tunes in the whole set, all of which seem to me like fundamental tunes to know if you every want to get to a point where you can jam with strangers. The technique is learn-Jay's-solos which I've heard here is an intermediate step toward getting to the point where you create your own solos.

I have Vol. 1-3 and really like them. I am sure they make it easier to get ready to play with others. I like it because I don't read music and the CD's make you pay attention to the timing and beat as well as the mandolins place in a group. Having the tunres played at different learning speeds is a big help also.

I have a couple volumes of the new "E-Books" by Jay Buckley. I had at one time a CD/printed book version, but I like the e-books better. With WinAmp, or other .mp3 players, you can change the speed of playback without affecting the pitch, so you can set the tempo anywhere you like. If you want printed tab, you can print the PDF files.

Cool stuff.
