I'm looking for a fret hammer. My local store has an 8 oz. solid brass and solid copper hammer. Is one better than the other? What is a desireable weight?

I use one that is 12 oz. with a plastic head.

I've been using a hammer with plastic head on one side and hard rubber on the other.
I found it in one of those cheep stuff grab boxes in an auto parts store. Two bucks.Either side works fine.

I found one at Big Lots like the one Jim uses. Cost $1.99.

Well, my dad gave me a whopping two pound brass hammer this evening. Did my first fret installation tonight. No problems at all. Nothing like using a mini-sledgehammer on your mandolin. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif
