My band is practicing tonight somewhere more far away, so i had to bring my gear to work. I don't leave instruments in the car, so i carried them in (just a gig bag with flutes and a mandolin, also in a gig bag).
The rent-a-cop at the employee entrance wouldn't let me in without inspecting the mandolin.
I think people are seeing too many movies. Can anyone confirm if real Mafia hit men did, actually, carry their Tommy guns in fiddle cases? http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Hey Glauber,
Now if you were carrying in a violin case, maybe I can see that the search was necesary.
Last month I flew out of El Paso International Airport. The nice gentleman from airport security told me that it was necessary to x-ray my ukelele case before boarding but it wasn't necessary to open and inspect http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

A rough-looking guy walks into a bank with banjo case. One of the tellers spots him and hits the alarm. The cops show up, detain him and search him. They find a shotgun in the banjo case and they get him to admit he intended to rob the bank. Following up, the cops question the teller and ask her how she knew he had a shotgun and intended to use it. She replies, "I didn't know. I just thought he had a banjo and intended to use it." Badump-bum!

I'm sure they were relieved when they realized it was only a loaded shotgun. It could have been a banjo!

I had some wag in the Red Carpet Club at JFK ask me if I was packing a Tommy gun last week... I chuckled, but mentioned that once I'm at the airport, I find that weapons jokes attract more attention than I care for.

My teacher would go into the NYC one day a week to teach to students who reside there. One guy worked in the U.N and would have lessons in his office. After 9/11 he was stopped for the first time and the security guys said they've always wondered what was in the case.
