I have a wonderful old Lyon and Healy mandolin that I have really enjoyed playing over the past few years, but most seem to have a different inside label to mine. I have seen mostly a small L/H logo and a large Wasburn below it. Mine has a large L/H logo and right at the bottom of the label written small is wasburn.

Can anyone tell me the differences on the labels?
Will the label give me a clear idea of the date? Iguess it is early 1920's???

HERE IS THE LOVELY MANDOLIN AND LABEL (http://www.chinatogalway.com/Lyon%20and%20Healy.htm)

Any info much appreciated

According to the Washburn/Lyon and Healy book that I have the pro model was introduced in the early `20`s and "Washburn" was added to the label at that time, that is the time the asymmetrical points were introduced by dropping the lower point lower on the body....The book also says that the neck was shortened to a 13" scale and joined the body at the 9th fret...This mandolin was also their "Top of the line" instrument at that time....The book doesn`t show or tell anything about the labels but I believe that if the "Washburn" name is small then it would be an earlier model (closer to 1920) and if the name was larger it would be a later model because Washburn later took over the company entirely but still refered to the mandolin as a L&H....

Hope this helps somewhat....Willie
