I don't read much about the Gibson F-9. Any info is appreciated. Tone bar or X brace? Type of wood. None up here in my neck of the woods.

There have been thread after thread about them. Do a search and you may find what you want to know.
All of the current Gibson mandolins have tone bars. Look here. (http://www.gibson.com/products/oai/mandolins/f9.html)

Anyone own a Gibson F9? Would like to hear about them. Pro or cons. Thanks

I believe F9 is tone bar. (I don't think Gibson makes any mandos that aren't.)

The F9 is a tone bar mandolin. It is made to the same specs as our best models and the only difference is the appearance. The less pearl and binding and finish result in substantial savings. In addition, it gives the mandolin a very open woody tone right from the start. It is Gibson's best selling mandolin ever! I'm sure you will like it. Thank you.

I used to own an F-9 and absolutely loved the sound.
The only problem I had with mine was that the neck was very narrow (1" at the nut) with a pronounced wedge to the shape of the neck. Some people like that, though, so that is strictly a personal opinion. I happen to prefer wider necks. I have seen some F-9's with a rounder slightly wider neck.
Usual advice - if you can play a few before you decide that would be ideal.

Mando Dude, if you don't get one by the time you come down for Mayberry Days, I'll take ya down to Jackson's Music in Winston. They have a few F-9's down there.
I like them and think they sound REALLY good. I like that woody tone to them and the feel of the instrument is great.
My next purchase will probably be an F-9. I love them.
