Nobody's fault but my own, but I'm in the process of selling, so I'm currently without one. I'm probably one of the FEW on this board who only has one mandolin.

I'll get a new one as soon as the deal gets completed.

Man, this is tough... http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

I hear you - mine is getting major repair work w/ a luthier. Three weeks now w/out a mando. Picked up a uke to tide me over. Ready to get a Mid-Mo if I have to wait any longer.

I beginning to believe that MAS for at least two mandos is what is necessary, if at all possible. You've got to have something "mandolin" to play. At least for us mandolin nuts. What do you do when you come home at night and don't have a mandolin of some sort to play? Painful.

Yep, there can be only one here as well.

i have only one mando at the moment, and i like it this way, this way i can play only one and work and play and make it sound much better than if i had to rotate, though i don't suppose i'd mind to teribly having a backup hilburn or brw ...you know just as a beater...:D

Painful. Same boat here, re: OM. Sold one, have quite a wait for the other. How long before you'll be set again? G

Ahhh! You poor dear! I have been in your shoes once before when my first cheapie "died". Now, to get through this you have to take a nice, warm bubbly bath and sip a big glass of your favorite single malt and eat lots and lots of Kit Kats. And Doritos. Avoid watching any mando related TV shows, like the Gathier Gospel Hour with Marty Stuhart, etc. And don't do what I did, rush out and buy some over-priced Pacific Rim mandolin from the local music shop and gush over it on the Mandolin Cafe and your local Bluegrass Club just so everyone laughs at how much you paid for it..etc....etc... even if it is OK. So it's not a fancy-schmancy Flatiron or Gibson ...grumble...grumble... http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif

Someone sent one of the ultra cheap laminated Rogue As to my kids as a gift and diddling with that is what got me started on the mando. Those things go for under $50 with shipping and are playable as a first/beater/spare. Or go to the music store and pick up a cheap soprano uke and a set of baritone uke strings and between the two sets (the one on it and the bari set) you can come up with a reasonable GDAE with very nearly the same scale as a mando as a practice instrument with a different sound. Or borrow one. Or get moving on buying that next one.

This place is amazing. #I've had 2 offers for loaners, one by Lee and one by another great person. #This is a place of community # http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

But, I see light at the end of the tunnel. #I'm hoping a deal works this next week, so Lee, thanks anyway.

And, I'm lucky I guess. #I have a nice Martin dred and a good fiddle to come home to (in addition to the family). #I've actually been flatpickin and singing more than in recent past, so maybe it's a good thing overall. #Hopefully it'll all work out BETTER in the end. #

Teaches me a valuable lesson, though. #GET ANOTHER BEATER MANDO so this doesn't happen again.

Thanks for yall's support. #There's some good folks on this forum.

Well my dilema is now over. I got my Yellowstone back from the place I had sent it to consign. Decided not to go that route. Took it up to Spruce Tree in Madison, WI and traded on a Flatiron Festival F. 2000 model. They were GREAT to deal with and gave me a really good trade in.

It's an amazing instrument. I'll post pics tomorrow up in the photos area. Thanks for all those folks who offered loaners and gave advice on different models.

I'm happy now http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif

David, glad things worked out. I should get my Snakehead back this week, plus I ordered a used Mid-Mo M1, thus increasing my mando holdings 200%! Playing the Uke during my mando hiatus has been a blast - would like to add an oud to the arsenal next!
