Guys I need some help. Shann and I are wanting to take a trip to Nashville for our 6th anniversary. She's been doing some looking on the internet to try and set something up for us now so w'll be committed to it.
Can some of yall give us the best/cheapest places to stay in DOWNTOWN Nashville? We really would like to be inwalking distance from everything, Opry Mills, Opry Land and all the other stuff. but most of all closest to the Gibson warehouse. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
Thanks in advance.

Uhhh...you don't want to be close to downtown then. We are on the other side of the river where all the good action is http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif . There are several motels/hotels right near Opry Mills and the Opry complex. Of course, there is the Opry land hotel. It is worth a visit even if you don't stay there. There is an Amerisuites hotel near there that we used to stay in when we visited Nashville. I have not been there in a long time, but it was pretty nice and was not terribly expensive. There is a Radisson across the street from the Opryland hotel. Again, I have no idea on pricing. There are several others nearby also. Make sure you stop by and say 'hi' to me. Have a happy anniversary!

uhhh...your right. I don't want to be near downtown then. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
I have never been to Nashville before. As a matter of fact, Pigeon Forge and Mt. City is the only places I've ever spent any time in Tenn. I passed through Knoxville around 1 or 2 in the morning on the way back from Indiana a few years back.
We gonna check on that Amerisuite. ANd will dfinately look ya up. We got a couple months before we come. We are trying to square everything away now.

Opryland Hotel, Opry Mills (Bass Pro Shops and Gibson Showcase), The ("new") Opry House are all together and north of downtown. Most people probably don't walk between them, but you could. I think there are shuttle buses.
Downtown has the Ryman (original Opry House), Gruhns, lots of restaurants and clubs, Gibson Valley Arts. Station Inn is nearer to downtown, but I don't think it's really walkable by lazy American standards (no offense intended to lazy Americans, after all I are one).
Unless the environmentalists succeeded in shutting them down, there are water taxis between the Opryland area and downtown, so in theory you could stay either place and see both without driving.
If you're gonna be here in the summer, check out the schedule for the Martha White Bluegrass series at the Ryman. There's nothin better than live bluegrass at the Mother Church.

As Joe suggested there are a number of hotels on Music Valley Drive that are reasonable. If you are coming for a weekend you can rent a car for dirt cheap. I think Enterprise runs a 9.99 weekend deal sort of thing. I did it up in Maryland a couple of months ago and I drove basically the equivilent to a go-cart, but it got me from a to b just fine. If I had suggestion, besides Gibson of course, it would be to go to the Station Inn. You can't beat a show there.
I stayed at the hotel just across the street from the Frist Center and thought it was a good choice. Nightime is when I prefer not to drive and there's plenty of nightlife within walking distance.

Lee, you don't remember the name of the hotel?
I've done some checking and some of the hotels aren't showing any availability for the time we are coming to stay.
Keep comin with the suggestions. Any thing will help. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

There are several hotels over at oprymills you could stay in. Also, up on Elm Hill there are several reasonable places as well. You will have to rent a car or take a taxi to and from. Downtown will be more expensive but, that is where most of the nightlife is. The opryland area is kinda dead at nite and once u see Gibson, unless you want miles of outlet shopping there is not that much more to do over there. I would stay downtown and water taxi or drive over to opryland. The Hotel across from the Frist Center is a Holiday Inn express. It probably wouldnt be too bad. You can walk from there to anywhere down town and your not too far from the station inn either.

Yeah Moose, I used to live in Boone and Mt. City aint nuttin but a hop skip and a jump from there.
I poured footins up in them hills for a while and we did quite a few jobs in Mt. City. And to be honest, you aint done nuttin till you've tried to drag a 3 inch thick steel belted hose full of concrete up and down a mountain. Now, back to Nashville. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I'd recommend the Downtown area - I went to a conference at Opryland once and thought it was, well very cheesey and tacky.
Needless to say, my buddy and I didn't spend much time at the conference and escaped to the downtown areas which was more our cup of tea (or bourbon - in this case). Had lunch at Jack's B-B-Q and in walked a bunch of Buffalo Sabres players who were playing the Predators that night. For us hockey - music fans, we were in heaven! It was fun to have a few at Tootsie's then go over to the hockey game. I'm sure others more knowledgeable could point you to the more interesting, off-the-beaten-path places.

My suggestion as a frequent traveler to Nashville:
If you can afford the Opryland Hotel, stay there. It is really an unbelievable place, and within walking distance of Opry Mills.
If you want to go the budget route, check the Wilson Inn or the Hampton Inn on Elm Hill Pike. That's where I usually stay. There are also a bunch of other places on Elm Hill Pike. It is about 10 minutes from Opry Mills and 20 minutes from downtown and not far from the airport.
I can't recall the name of the hotel I stayed. Frist Center is 919 Broadway but the hotel may have an address on the side street.
Go see the Belmont Mansion too.
