Hi NYC'ers
We'll be in your burg later this week. Of course, we'll ride the ferry over Staten Is & MandoBros.
[I REALLY wish they had a more current inventory list up on the Website - Apr 15 is most current . . . !!].

Anyone here been to MB recently? I'll be checking out high end acoustic guitars and mandolins (new BUT HopeFully OLDE - what caught your attn/fancy recently? I'll give you my $0.02 back #when I get back to a computer.

ALSO: Last year we were in San Francisco and LOVED Amoeba Records near GG Park. What "record" shoppes in NYC would you recommend as similar - i.e. HUGH, eclectic, lotsa used, lotsa quantity AND depth in such genres as BlueGrass/Old Timey, and Quality Folk (I especially want to add to my Kate Bush collection . . . ).

Thanks for recommendations.

p.s. Anyone know of any good shops (of either type) in DC? We're hitting the Capital, too.

Ciao bene

Mandolin Brothers still has a thriving inventory. They always have the whole Gibson line usually with the exception of the Varnished Fern. They have Apitius, Collings, Eastmans, Summit, and many others... You'll have plenty to do there, just leave your wallet in the hotel room... http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

For CDs, Tower on W. 4th St., and J&R on Park Row both have full selections, with J&R being generally less expensive. Discorama, on W. 4th St. is quite cheap, but has a catch-as-catch-can selection. None of these places have used CDs, though. One of the best used CD places in The City is Sounds, on St. Marks Place, but they'll have very little bluegrass. I'd say J&R would be your best bet, plus it's in a cool part of town.
