Hi,

This is my first post on this forum. What a great resource and group of helpful people!

I am an acoustic guitar player and am just getting into mandolins. After much review I decided on an Eastman 515.

Can anyone tell me the best price they've seen for the 515? It would help much if the retailer sold by mail order.

Thanks in advance.

Kaz

KazKru, I would like to kindly suggest that the best price may not be what you want. If you really want best price, buy used. If you are thinking of buying new, pay those few extra bucks to a dealer who will really back you up with setup, support information, and in the event of a faulty new product, a refund or replacement.

Last August, I bought a mandolin (who's manufacturer I would prefer not to name) and the nightmare scenario started. The neck started to twist, and the part of one of the "f" holes just broke. No impact, pre-low humidity season, just broke. Even the retailer (with a multigenerational music store) said there was no reason to break. Anyway, all said and done, the retailer gave me back my money, and what I had traded since they could not replace it. It was well worth the extra $50 I paid over the lowest price.

That being said, I recently bought a fiddle from Steve at Gianna Violins. The setup was fantastic, and he was great to deal with. I know they handle Eastmans as well. They are at

Good luck.

That is where I got my 515 and it was priced right and well set up. I highly recommend them.

Yup! Im about to trip the trigger on a new Eastman myself. I have had quite a bit of Q&A sessioons by Email with Steve, and he is great. The price seems to be the best also.

One more singing the praises of Steve Perry at Gianna. Gratifyingly, they ALSO have the best prices I've seen on new instruments.

Gianna will sell you a great mandolin with competitve pricing, and professional setup. The advanced tuning option offered by Gianna is not offered by anyone else, to my knowledge. # # This comes at an additional cost, but Steve is an accomplished bench-builder of violins, and is applying advanced voicing techniques typically done on violin family instruments. I have enjoyed remarkable results on two Eastmans to date that were put through these adjustments.

Actually, I don't charge any extra - I do everything I can to every mandolin coming through. Thanks for all the kind words.

I too will sing the praises of Steve Perry. His set up on my 814 was top notch. I would like to buy him a Coke! Very nice people, always gave me straight answers. I'm not getting anything out of this endorsement but I sure hope Steve and Gianna get all the business they can handle. Great Service should be rewarded.

The "Mandolin Store" stocks Eastmans, along with Weber and others, and I doubt you'll find better prices anywhere.
