The transcription below was very recently posted on the IRTRAD-L mailing list for Irish traditional music discussions.

I say "sort of..." in the description above because the following is from an album that is very difficult to find these days, and that fact was part of the earlier posts in this Irtrad discussion. So, it may be very touch to get to hear this one.

But the mandolin in the recording is mentioned, and I know that some (probably a bunch...) of you read ABC, so along with the conversations here about finding Irish mandolin material I thought you might like to have this. I hope so, anyway...

Enjoy,

FWIW, here's my transcription of the final track of
Touchstone's 1982 album, The New Land. A very pretty waltz, and a
great album altogether. The part i transcribed is when the mandolin
plays it solo, the first time around. I didn't post this to the Tune
Finder because there are plenty of other versions there already. The
"N"s are from the album's liner notes.

Yes, and not very well, either...

I'm not sure if it's Kosher to post a transcription for something that has a known author, but i really like this waltz. Enjoy.

By the way, if you don't have ABC-capable software, there are several online converters, for example, the one in concertina.net (http://www.concertina.net/tunes_convert.html) is my favourite.

Cut-and-paste the tune there (from the X:1 line to the end), and it will spit out a nicely formated PDF that you can print.

You can find an "authorized" setting of it here: Cranford Publications - The New Land - Silver Apple (http://www.cranfordpub.com/tunes/abcs/silver_apple.abc).

Cool. That's a more fiddle-oriented version, probably closer to the original. It's funny that they say that Touchstone did it in D - that's wrong, it's in F in the album.

In IRTRAD-L, there was also the following info:

Hi folks,
A transcription of Otis Tomas's The New Land appears in Bill Matthiesen's second Waltz Book (1995) on p. 40. -- Aloha, Lani

And as a nice followup, i just learned that Otis Tomas is also a luthier, and makes mandolins (and other things).
