I took my 69 year old Dad out this morning for a round of Sporting Clays....we had a blast! Don't know what my kids have in mind for tomorrow??? Probably $ from my wallet and a movie with their friends! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

I gave my dad a very nice Beretta shotgun today.

He gave me $2,500.

I guess what started out to be a gun deal turned into a cool Father's Day! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I am up before 7, probably before most, since Nova Scotia is Atlantic time, an hour before Eastern.

Happy Father's Day to all.

I've been called a lot of things in my 56 years: some good, some not so good. The one thing that lifts my spirits is being called Dad.

Have a great day Dads.

Ah how well I remember those baby days, 13 years on and it's the thumping of heavy bass from upstairs. Oh Well music is music.

24 years ago, I was blessed with our only child; a beautiful baby girl. Born at 11 minutes after midnight and the press greeted me as she was the first child born in the entire state on Father's day.

She went on to win beauty pageants, give us alot of trouble during the teenage years, married the best guy in the world and is currently in med school-a perpetual Dean's list student with a 4.0.

Friday my daughter called me and said that her checkup was great. My grandson is healthy and will be delivered in about 3 weeks. Her husband has already told his dad and me that he will be named with both grand-dad's middle names. An honor, indeed!

Lastly, I have tickets to the Compton-Long workshop later this week.

It is just impossible to get any better than that!

No sleeping in for me. #I make breakfast. #My wife and I and our six kids (ages 2 to 12) got up early and went to church, where I led the children's music. #Guess I have a knack for that sort of thing. #Sometimes it's guitar accompaniment, sometimes mandolin. #Then off to see each grandpa, then flying some big kites we bought today. #Flatpick, good advice.

..all you guys have incredible stories to tell...this thread could very well lend its way to the "inspiration" thread that I started....Ive spent the day with my two kids..Ryan 15 and KayLee 2..from two different marriages...if you dont think that getting them together didnt take and act of God then think again....we have had a great day.....the Son and I have spent the last 2 days fishing in an old farm pond down the road..I havent fished there since I was his age...I called the delightful old woman of 90 to ask permission and she still remembered me ....she said "Scotti, you sure did put up alot of hay here"...just blew my mind...."of course you can fish back there...anytime".....in the last 2 days we have caught 52 Bass...all of them 1-3 lbs..we threw all of them back..but man what a blast it was.....you wanna talk about inspiration now?

Father/Son golf tournament that we drove 250 miles to play in after watching my daughter run track. Fathers' Day is for the children, with 200% payback to a proud father!

I've never given up playing the mandolin or playing golf to raise my children, just delayed it a few years! Thankfully so!! Dan

16 year old son cooked me breakfast, 15 year old son helped with supper and the 9 year old son took me to see a movie after church - his treat(but I drove). I had a good day and I have great sons (and their mom ain't no slouch). God may not have blessed me with wealth, fame or good looks, but He has blessed me none the less.

I received a new Intellitouch tuner for Father's day as well as a book on album covers. My son (soon to be 18) and I went to a big flea market, purchased a chair that looks like a hand, part of a drum set to supplement my son's drum set, and a fish eye camera lens. We got back home in time to get yelled at by the wife for bringing the hand chair home then we went to a nice restaraunt for lunch. We ended the day by watching rental movies. It's great to be a dad!

My daughter, who recently graduated from high school and started her first "real" job, wanted to take me out for Father's Day with her first paycheck. #We went to the Hard Rock Cafe in downtown Minneapolis, which of course is a great place to listen to and talk about music (granted, very little of it bluegrass). #I learned a lot about her type of music, and she learned something about mine. #All in all, one of the most enjoyable Father's Days I can recall.

She'll be starting school in the fall for massage therapy. #I'm already on her practice waiting list!

A picnic in the park with my sons, lounging in the shade of a mighty oak, then some Frisbee and wading in the river. Must of wore them out. They both fell asleep in the car like little kids - and they're 14 and almost 11. Late at night I celebrated with a snifter of single malt and my mandolin.

Not that I begrudge ANY Dads any of the good stuff you all deserve on Father's Day. (What a great picture, Plami!) But I don't think that there was much mention of Mother's Day here on the Cafe last month, and I'm sure there are Moms here (and in our lives) equally deserving. Let's not miss it next year, ok?

Got up early for breakfast out and then a visit to the local Veteran's Cemetary. #It was the first Father's Day since my father-in-law died. #In the afternoon both sons had to work. #The wife and I went to a local church to see Robin and Linda Williams. #In between I got to do a plumbing repair on a bathroom sink.

Karen, I do believe Scotti offered similar greetings on Mother's Day. But the only people who responded were guys! You women will just have to learn to share your feelings more. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

This was my last Fathers Day before I actually become a dad, and unfortunately my Dad and I are separated by distance, but we chatted on the phone with for a while. Fortunately for Dad, I live near Napa Valley so I had already shipped him off his annual Fathers Day bottle of his favorite Madeira, which is a blend of the vinters' various madeira vintages, ranging from five to thirty years of age, with a small portion of their original 100+ year old "master blend".
