I made a jig for my router table to route the body for binding. This works fine either by holding it by hand or by using spool clamps for "feet" to steady the body, but it isn't going to do as well on the headstock. Due to the size, the angle of the neck, and the difficulty in holding things level,I can't "figger" a way to do it. How do you learned luthiers do it. I've scratched my watch and wound my backside and still can'tcome up with a way.

Do you have an F-style peghead, or paddle style, or just what? #If the peghead shape has been cut
perpendicular to the fingerboard, you have to have a way to deal with the angle so that your binding will fit, but if the peghead shape was cut perpendicular to the peghead face (ala Martin guitars) then cutting the binding channel is much easier. #Some time back there were several postings about this, showing some homemade jigs for Dremels to simplify the process, plus discussions about binding the peghead overlay before gluing it on the peghead, cutting it by hand, cutting it perpendicular to the peghead face and using different binding thicknesses to correct for the angle, and so on. #It seems like the topic heading was similar to yours, and it was in this forum, so you should be able to find it. #Good Luck
I cut out the peghead veneer and bind it before glueing to the neck blank. Works great.

I cut the overlay to shape, glue it to the neck, then bind it.

I have found both Johann and Johns methods work FAR better and easier than routing the channel in the finished and shaped peghead
