Well I am hoping this will put others on the alert. We see warnings from each other pop up on here often about ebay and paypal etc.. scams and spoof emails. Well let me tell you, even if you do not answer those emails or visit the look alike websites you can be reamed. Someone got my wives paypal info and started ringing up the transactions. I got them stopped but had to cancel my cards and start a new bank account. BEWARE. We never answered those emails, although paypal doesn't believe me. Someone still found a way to get our info. I am thinking of just getting out of paypal totally but am not sure. Maybe going to the extreme of monthly password changes will help. Just an fyi check your accounts there is no telling how many other people got ripped over the weekend. Of course paypal never gets hacked into but I don't believe that line. Sorry that happened to ya John. Thanks for the heads up. Lp
appreciate the info. I have had issues with the customer "service" of paypal recently as well...wonder if they are "outsourcing" their calls...
I would never even begin to think about linking paypal to my main checking account. I only to CC. If I where a merchant I'd think about having a seperate checking acct and only put in money when I needed it for PP.
As far as I'm concerned PayPal can stuff there Confirmed Address feature and so can any vendor that won't take paypal credit card.
Last time I used Paypal it took longer for them to wire the money into the other fellows account than it would have taken me to mail a postal money order.
Maybe someone has put a keystroke recording program into your computer, John. If that's the case, it won't help to change passwords, since they'll have the new one as soon as they download the latest stuff you've typed.
There's so many ways to rip folks off cybernetically that the only way to stay safe is to use my method - keep that bank account empty, and the plastic maxxed out. MAS helps me with this.

ALSO. When you see a mando at an unbelievable price (like a mint F4 for $500) and says, "sales to preferred buyers only, email me to be one” or something like that its a scam. You email them thinking they’ll let you bid but you never get an email back. They just put your address on a SPAM mailing list and send you ads for Erectile dysfunction pills and porn. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif

I believe we may have been hit. Possibly even from people that I bought from in before over seas.
John, I'm with ya on this one. Live and learn.

Last time I tried to use Paypal, they said the transaction amount was above their $2000 limit, so I had to become a "verified customer". That meant giving them my bank account and routing number. Then they would "verify" the account by making one or two small deposits. They couldn't explain why all of that was necessary since I was using my Visa credit card. I looked at the fine print on their website. Apparently they want to be able to access the account in case they need to help themselves if a payment doesn't go through. Very disturbing. I wouldn't do it. Ever.

Yea I tell you. I always thought it was a little to convenient but my wife wanted it. Now I'm back to the old saying my dad use to say. Want in one hand and sh** in the other and see which one fills first. I will cancel all the paypal stuff just as soon as they have all my money back. The bank is helping me keep everything stopped up. Paypal wasn't to happy I got stop payments on all but one transaction before they went through. They wanted to get all the money from my account then research everything then two weeks later put it in my paypal account. Sometimes I wonder if they don't orchestrate some of this on their own just for the interest. My money alone isn't much but I can't help but wonder how much other peoples money is tied up by them sorting this sort of thing out. Their has to be a better way to move money around.
I doubt I have a keystroke program in my computer not that it isn't possible but my experience is these guys spend most of their time writing for windows machines. Just in case I'll wipe my hard drive and encrypt my nodes again. Thanks all John
