Hi all....

I live on a somewhat isolated island, and have always wanted to start a radio station that could broadcast island news, music recorded by locals, concerts, etc. etc.

But it's always been a great big hassle attempting to go through the FCC red tape in order to do a conventional station...

But with the proliferation of internet radio, I decided to give it a go...

Check out RadioFree Olga (http://www.live365.com/stations/radiofreeolga)...

There's not a lot of mandolin content on RFO, as it is limited to the music made by islanders, and I'm about the only mando player. #
So there's lots of genre-bending, from rap to yuppie-sex-music to good 'ol rock-n-roll...
Music made by my friends and neighbors.

But the thought occurs to me that someone here at the Cafe could start a station that plays all-mando-all-the-time, including recordings made by our brothers and sisters here at the Cafe, as well as the tons of great mandolin recordings that are out there...

The station is pretty easy to run, even by a computer novice like myself...
Folks have been emailing me tunes, which is cool...

The sound of the station, despite the fact that it's MP3-based, is good..
I hate the commercials, but that's the way it goes....

Discuss...
(It's a new world out there!)...

Anyway, go have a listen...
I'll go sneak a few mando tunes on the playlist right now for everyone at the MC...

Thanks Bruce.... I wish I could listen here at work, but our firewall blocks the ports this thing uses (TCP 4000-32000 for those that care... from Live365.Com's Help page). I'll have to give a listen from home.

I've been very happy with live365 - first you can get MandoZine Radio (http://www.live365.com/stations/mandozine) and Mandolin Radio (http://www.live365.com/stations/mandokatt) which are great, but also their Bluegrass selection (http://www.live365.com/cgi-bin/directory.cgi?genre=bluegrass) is the best of all the internet radio streams, including Shoutcast.
