Does anyone out there happen to have a couple of slotted oval head 4-36 1/4" machine screws. These hold the gears on to the posts of some old Kluson tuners. I can't find them anywhere online as most suppliers only stock 4-40. Any help would be most appreciated.

Is there an old music store near you? If so, do they do repairs?
Most people that have done repairs for a while have a big ol' box or drawer full of old tuners for parts. You might find just what you need.

Not cheap but (I think) these screws that Stew-Mac (http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Hardware,_parts/Resonator_guitar:_Screws/Replacement_Tuner_Screws.html) carries are what you are looking for.

Those are wood screws. He is looking for machine screws.

Ken, Can you post a photo of the screw(s) you have? I probably have what you want, but need to see one first. Thanks, Kenc

Ovalhead slotted 4-36-1/4" about says it all.

It's the most standard machine screw used for holding together old tuning machines.

I only get an error msg from your links to that site.

I'm sorry about that. Try just going to their front page, derived from the funky link, at http://www.m-f-w.com/ and chase down the part from there. It's an efficient site, but I just discovered there is a major drawback: they don't sell to end users like us. You have to go to a distributor such as Fastenal and order through them. Which will probably double the 35¢/ea price. Sigh.
