Sometimes I think all he does is complain. Most of the time, I can't even figure out what he's talking about. Noise noise noise. Bla bla bla. Ga ga ga.
He seems to have no regard for his benefactors. If he's not complaining behind their backs, he's doing so right out in front of them. Ingrate.
Sometimes I wonder if he'll ever actually have anything to say.

...why do I forgive him?
Because he looks like Frank Wakefield.

well, almost. He needs a little more craggy face. But can he play New Camptown Races in Bb?
Yeah, but too darn cute to throw out of the house, eh?

Put your Bibey Model in a pic with him J. Mark! He is a cutie and I am sure he will be playing one day. If I were a dad I don't think I could resist that face either.

Put your Bibey Model in a pic with him J. Mark! #
Better take the crayon out of his hand first though!

Thanks, guys. He's 9 months old, Eric. And totally obsessed with stringed instruments. Will crawl (pull) himself clean across a room to try to get to one, and then sit there and strum the strings and smile. I swear.

He looks strangely like Chris Thile, no?
Great photo.

That's very cool. My sons are both suddenly playing guitar. My younger one got obsessed with my old Harmony tenor. There's a pic of him playing it in the Post a Pic of Your Tenor Guitar thread; I won't hijack yours with a post of him.

Sometimes I think a thread should be elected "Thread of the Week." This one has my vote. A pleasant break from some of the recent issues on this board. Thanks JML!

Speaking of pics...Did you ever post pics of your Bibey model? I would love to see them and I am sorry to deviate from the cute guy in the gig bag.
I keep all my children in custom-made Calton cases. Keeping your children in gigbags is like leaving them laying out, as far as I'm concerned.

That is one HOT mando dude. It looks great and I am sure it sounds great also!

Alan set my Bibey up with J74's. I tried DR's but it wasn't near the same. Great looking boy JML. You should be proud.

Oh, you were referring to the mandolin?
Right now it has John Pearse 80/20's on it. I had J74' before that. I like both, but tend to favor the JP's for this mando.
Mine used to be that size! Now, he claims that he is graduating from college next Friday, but we have seen no emphirical proof of that. You know, now at state colleges (in SC, anyway) they are not required to send parents thier kid's grades.
Mark, unless he is about a 4.3 sprinter (40 Yd), a zero handicap golfer, (I would rule out "smart", but I don't know his mother), or an adept 3-point shooter, you better start saving some money - Duke is very expensive!

Duke? Look at that "P" on his shirt! He's a Penn man, my alma mater. Good boy.
Yeah, Penn! We made the Final Four... in 1979. Go Quakers!

#Duke is very expensive!
Now that's funny.
I'm investing in mandolins for his benefit. Yeah, that's the ticket. Yeah.

Eric, he's a great looking kid. Is he a City kid? A born and bred New Yawkah? Very cool.
It occurs to me that there are a bunch of kids out there who are lucky enough to have for parents some of the people who hang out here on the Cafe. It really has to be a finer slice of humanity, generally...and they get exposed to the most beautiful musical instrument ever invented.
Here's to those kids! And the future of...everything.

Mark, thanks. He is a born and bred Chicagoan. I'll try to get his brother to share the picture of him with spiked hair playing electric. Scary, but in a good way. He plays piano, trumpet and now tenor guitar. He wanted a mandolin lesson, but he couldn't keep his hands off the tenor. I showed him some chords, my brother-in-law showed him how to fingerpick, and he hasn't put that thing down since. It's just as well, I don't want to have to fight him for the Flatiron or have an altercation over the Arches. I agree about kids getting to grow up with music in the family. I think it's great. My dad had piano acquisition syndrome for a while, I think. He was pretty talented, and it really was nice to hear him play classical music on a beautiful old piano. I look at that photo of your son and it almost makes me want to have another.

eric burdon said that trying to raise kids as the man who sang "it's my life and i'll do as i want" is sheer hell.

Mark -
Thanks so much for sharing that picture. Kids are so cute when you don't have to take care of them. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
This has been a pleasure to read. And I loved the line about keeping the kids in cases instead of gig bags - reminds me of numerous discussion here and on Banjo Hangout. All in all this has started my day right!

So here you are, waiting with bated breath for him to take his first step, to say his first word ...
And then you'll have to wait 21 years for him to sit down and shut up. DAMHIK ... #(mine's 14 & female)

All these good looking kids -- from you ugly mandolin players!
Hummmmmm - Maybe you guys ought to spend more time at home rather than out playing those mandolins.
My son looks just like me - but of course I am quite nice looking!
You might remember what Mark Twain said about boys. "They should be put in a cracker barrel and fed though a knot hole until they are 15. At fifteen, plug up the knot hole!"

Mark, have you taught him to back talkwards yet?
