It turns out I'll be in Halifax, Nova Scotia the first weekend in June for work...I've been scanning for interesting things to do while there, and came upon their annual Celtic Feis. Wondering if any cafe folks know anything more about it? It has a big website, but not as much content...
Also, most of the musicians featured are unfamiliar to me, so any commentary on any who are particularly worth catching (or with any mando content) would be of interest to me...
thanks!

several of the greatest Cape Breton musicians like Jerry Holland, Dave MacIsaac...one of Ireland's greatest fiddlers Frankie Gavin...Frances Black... looks like you can't go wrong!

All those Celtic Feis events are pretty pricey. Contact the Nova Scotia Tourist Bureau and ask them for a book that lists "events" during the time you'll be there. In that book will be information and websites that will give you a lot of options for listening to or participating in musical events, most of which are free or cost around $6 or less.
There are ceilidhs, fiddle contests, dances, and performances all over the place. Don't be afraid to attend "out of town" events as the distances are small. Last fall after all the tourists left we attended 7 musical events in 8 days and costs were negligible.
Be sure to bring your mandolin.

Thanks, OTW! I have had only the Feis' website to draw information from... will look into other, more participatory options. If you hear of any or have any other suggestions for sources of info, please PM me or post here. Thanks!!

You should be able to find a tourism kiosk in the waterfront area of Halifax. I ssure hope the weather turns pleasant for your trip. We have had the wettest month of May in recorded history, the weather was nicer in April.

If you are flying in, take a minute or 2 to stop in the terminal and pick up some brochures. There are volunteers at the Airport who wear distinctive plaid vests, in the blue "Nova Scotia "tartan. They are very helpfu and will direct you to where the information is found. You will find the people here very friendly.
Hope you enjoy your visit,
