Does anyone know of a good, portable, safe mandolin stand?
I would like to leave my mandolin out, and easy to get to, in my music room (like I do my guitar) But, I can't seem to find a stand that will work for that.
Thank you

Gringo,
Konig & Meyer make a great A-frame stand that adjusts from guitar size to mandolin size quite easily. It's very sturdy and it's easily portable. They're available any number of places. Google 'em.

This question comes up a lot. If you do a search, you'll get a lot of examples with links, etc.
For a small and solid stand, the Ingles violin stand is a good option. Most of the stands marketed for violins or ukes will work fine with a normally shaped mando.

Make sure the stand you choose is safe for laquer finishes ! Rubber eats right through it.

It is nice to have a room dedicated to music. #I have one too, but it is small and I don't like to clutter the floor space with instruments (I'm afraid I'll end up falling on one and breaking it). #Attached is a picture of a wall mounted hanger I use for my mandos. #Since the hangers are designed for guitars you need to squeeze the posts together some to accomodate the mando, it also has the 2 washer type things to keep the instrument for just falling out, to take the instrument out of the hanger you need to turn it slightly to get around the washers, so there's little risk of the instrument falling or being dropped. And I have been using them for several years with no effect on the finish.

Not specifically a mandolin stand, but will hold any guitar or mandolin. More stable than most and the mandolin will be higher off the floor than most. Google will find a range of prices from $30 to 45.

I like the Konig & Meyer stand in fact I have 2 of them. I keep one in the car. The rubber padding seems to be the kind that is safe with nitro finishes. One word of caution though. There is no wrap-around neck support so I wouldn't consider it wise to leave the mando unattended on the stand. Also if you mando has a heel button it could prevent the upper rubber pad from gripping the mandolin securely. Overall it is compact and convenient.

I like the Konig and Meyer too. I'd agree with pickinpox's review. Very portable - but I would use something else if I was playing in busy clubs. I'm lucky that I don't have to do that. I paid 20.00 for each of mine at local guitar shows.

I really like the Hamilton stand also. Extremely sturdy. It's the only stand I think I'd take to a gig. I used to used on at home. But now I have both a mandolin and a mandola sitting beside my desk, and two Hamiltons were taking up quite a bit of floor space. Now I'm using Ingles violin stands. The tailend of the instrument is just off the floor and it had neck support- all with a very small footprint. Not as secure as the Hamilton but I don't have small kids around or a big rowdy dog.

International Violins (http://www.internationalviolin.com/itemdrilldown.cfm?category=STANDS&expanded=22%2C26%2C29%2C4%2C59%2C75&stype=cat&item=7200) sells a nice stand that fits mandolins and has an extra hook for your nose flute.

If you're after a low-priced floor stand that's foldable and portable, here's an option: auction link (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=10179&item=7319204710&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW)
I've bought four of these, and think they work pretty well. They're $10 from this seller. There'a also an (inflated) S/H of $10, but I was able to order several at once for a more reasonable shipping charge. It has a dyed foam rubber packpad; I cover mine with a sock so it doesn't directly touch the finish. A couple of the pads fell off, but I just glued them back.

I think this is guaranteed to be the only mandolin stand endorsed by Will Shatner! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif
