I recently jammed w/ a bass player who also played a
1919 Gibson 3 post or hole ( oval hole in center ) in fair
condition. Since I know zip about Gibsons, I just nodded
in affirmation to whatever was said. Seems like a 1919
anything should be worth a fair amount but he didnt seem
overly concerned about it just lying it against the porch
wall where it could have been knocked over and/or stepped
on.
Anyone w/ info on this ? I posted this on the general
postings because it is more widely read and surprisingly had only one reply.

Thanks

I haven't a clue what a "3 post" is but the only Gibson's I am aware of in 1919 would be style A, A2, A3, A4 F2, and F4 and Army-Navy models. It could be a three point but that would not have been made in 1919. Did it have a scroll? Why do you ask... ? Why not ask that basss player again when you see him?

...or you should look in the archives and see if you see anything similar.

This was at a birthday party that I was invited to. I
knew only a few people and he wasnt one of them. Chances
are I may not see him again although the host would probably remember him.
I'm just curious ( like a lot of things ) about a mandolin that
old and being treated as though it were an inexpensive import.
I wouldnt have left my MM in that area. I kiddingly asked him if he wanted to swap for a " new mandolin " but he just smiled. I just assumed a Gibson that old would warrent a little more concern.
