Greetings Everyone.
Just trying to find out if people use different brands and gauges on the mandos in their collection. I have found that the classic D'Addario 11's sound best on my Gold Tone, but on my MK I use 10's 9the larger frets seem to like them better) and I'm still trying to find the best strings for my Freshwater. I have been playing all three mandos everyday now for the last week and it is wierd coming from the 11's to the 10's and then to a totally different brand that is currently on my Freshwater. But, still I use differnt gauges on my electric guitars.
Just wondering if anyone else uses differnet strings and/or gauges.

Yes, I think different mandolins seem to work better with specific strings. I had a Dearstone that really sounded best with Monels (specifically Bush strings). The Apitius I had and the Rattlesnake I have now both seem to sound better with phospher bronze strings (specifically J75s). It's probably a matter the mandolin construction/sound (i.e. more bass, more midrange etc.) and how the strings complement that sound, but with any mandolin I get I have to try a wide variety of strings all over again just to see what sounds best.

One size fits all here!!!
No fancy restaurant menus here either.
Buy them in bulk from Juststrings & they work fine.

My Bush model uses Monels and my Hogan F style uses J74's because the monels just don't sound as good on it. Every mando is so different and the strings that bring out their tone are just as different.

oK, COOL...I don't feel so strange now...On my eletric guitars I use all the same strings, with one exception (heavier gauge for my "jazzer"). Now, here's a silly question. What are Monels? Are they bright? Are they dull? Thanks y'all

Its a variety of high nickle copper alloy, resists corrosion well. brighter than higher copper alloys, the bronzes and brass alloys.
