View Full Version : cherry spruce on gibson tops?
i posted earlier and got no replies. #i was told by an employee at the gibson showcase that master model tops were now carved from cherry spruce. #never heard of it. #maybe a common name for something else? #anybody else heard this? #i was told the varnished fern i played also had a cherry spruce top. #it was a great sounding mando. #probably the best gibson ive played. #blew my nitro fern away. #i'll have to say the consistency at gibson is top notch right now.

Don't know who talked with you...but, Gibson doesn't use "Cherry Spruce". So far as I know, there is no such thing. Top woods are predominantly Sitka with Red Spruce being used on some models.

Perhaps the person was using the term "cherry" as an adjective, to mean extremely high quality, i.e., 'the spruce on this top is really "cherry"!'.

There is a one of a kind Cherry MM but Cherry is for the back and sides, not the top. It can be seen at First Quality. Beautiful job with natural finish.
