May it please the members of the Cafe to say a prayer for a fellow musician and my friend, Steve Francisco, who is in serious condition following brain surgery to relieve clotting resulting from an assault he suffered Saturday night.
Steve is an amazingly talented, self-taught musician, who plays piano, guitar, saxophone, flute, bass, and yes, mandolin. #His dedication to the craft is attested to by the fact that he has moved his Yamaha baby grand across the country and back in the 25 years he has owned it. #And that from a musician who plays for the sheer joy of playing, and rarely peforms publicly.
In short, music is Steve's passion, and his ability to play, if he recovers, is currently very much in doubt. #Let's all hope and pray that nightmare doesn't happen.
Thanks,
R

We will keep him and his family in our prayers.
Good luck...
Remember that music can always be remembered just like people. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

My thoughts are with you and your friend, and I hope this--which is consistent the GMatt's advice--may console you and give you hope. I have a friend who once had a stroke at an early age (well in his 30's, which is an early age for a stroke, at any rate). Music was a major passion of his, and he fought really hard to "remember" music. #Though it took him a while, he likes to say that "he got his soul back" when he regained his ability to enjoy music.

Prayers are answered.
3 weeks ago, Steve was moved to a longterm care facility with a prognosis of 6 months to a year recovery before an evaluation could be made as to any prospect for independent living in the future.
2 weeks ago, he came home and is doing everything but driving. The doctors just shrug and wonder.

That's wonderful news, and it sure renews my faith. I'm going to play something for him right now-maybe he'll hear it wherever he is living.
Good news indeed..............
