View Full Version : Please,I need advices about Adirondack spruce...
My Rigel A+ has an adirondack spruce top(PM said),and I want to know what are the differences between all these woods:spruce top, european spruce top, german spruce top,red cedar top, etc...I speak about differences about TONE?not about the aspect.I read on differents threads that some wood is warmer than other, some wood open up quickly than another etc... what's about? http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/coffee.gif
If you go to BRW (http://www.brw-instruments.com/index17.html) ,Ben gives a small explanation of each.

There has been a lot of discussion on this board about wood species in the top of mandolins. In my opinion, a lot of people are making far too much out of the affect of species on tone. A good piece of top wood is a good piece regardless of species. You can encounter more variation within a species than from one good top to another even if they are different species.
Someone occasionally posts a question about what type of spruce is in a Loar or other mandolin. If the differences in sound were clear, there wouldn't be a question. Often you can't tell what kind of wood it is.
Thank you Tom,very good site,I found there all explanations I was looking for. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif
Hello sunburst,
and what do you think about the BRV site? I believe in what you say but I like this site. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/coffee.gif

I've seen the site, it's a good site. There is more relevance to species differences when applied to a single builder using different woods to build otherwise similar instruments.
Yes,sunburst,I agree ,butI think that the general idee on the BRV is really good http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif
