OK, so I've (impulsively/scarily/stupidly) ordered one of these $95 kits. I figured it will give something to do when I have free time (is there such a thing)

Anyway! I was wondering what the woods are that are used in the interior of the mandolin. For example, the tonebars, what are they made of? What about a virzi? what about the little strip of wood that has dents in it (the one that goes all around the mandolin to hold the sides...)

We always talk about top, back and sides, sometimes neck and fingerboard, but what about the rest?

Blocks are usually Mahogany, denty little strips(linings)are often made of Linden,Mahogany, and other woods. The tone bars should be straight grained quarter sawn Sitka. Never made a Virzi, but they look like topwood to me. At airs about all there is inside a mando.
