Hi All:

As a new player I sought your advice re: books, videos etc. and it seemed the majority of folks thought a good teacher would be the best place to start. To that end, I had my first lesson with Orrin Star today who is close by and I'll be meeting with him every other week which should get me started on the right foot. It was great to hear my Yellowstone in capable hands and listening to Orrin play it just made me happier with my selection. Now I just have to get busy and find a way to coax those beautiful tones out of that little cedar box of possibilities.

Thanks for all your input and advice.

I have some of Orrin's instructional material and he is a great teacher and a fantastic picker.

I have no doubt that if you continue to study with Orrin you will learn much. You are very fortunate to be able to study with such a good teacher!

18 years ago, Orrin Star was my mandolin teacher. Unfortunatly, we only had maybe 6 or 8 lessons together, but I learned plenty and he exposed me to some great tunes.

Orrin is currently teaching out of his home in Cheverly, Maryland just outside Washington, DC.
