so another thread had given me the notion to throw out some ideas of easier jazz tunes good for jammin and quick learnin.
st. thomas (easy tune keep it very rythmic to keep it fun)
linus and lucy (the M7to M6 change on mando is SO easier than guitar! ha!)
blue monk (i like to monroe style solo on this one its great)
spain (hardest part was memorizing the solo melody part solo Dmajor all day and sound like a pro)
all blues (ttttttrrrremelo it up!)
if youre a viper/ the flintstones (or whatever other tune has the same chord progression)
well you needent (all dom7 solo in F bebopyblues then chromaticly follow the bridge)
my favorite things
fly me to the moon (in other words see next song)
bessame mucho
summertime
minor swing
swing '42
cantaloupe island
chameleon

most of these songs i used to play in a band wich is where i picked them up. these were the easiest to really jam on. i learned them all without reading a lick of music i play them just fine.
im always lookin for other tunes like these.

i might wanna add... im trying to read... its incredibly slow going.

Nice list, Lemon! A little reading every goes a long way. Sightreading is a major part of my practice routine. It gives one access to the thoughts of some of the most
brilliant minds in music (like Bach, Kreutzer, Munier)....
Hang in there!

Dawg tunes are great jammin' tunes........many have cycles of chords to blow over......16-16, EMD, or one like Dawgma / Dawgmatism the head is chords like Autumn Leaves and then an incredibly beautiful bridge. These tunes should be played by more folks, they aren't as hard as they seem when you hear the likes of Marshall, Anger & Rice & Dawg blowin their brains out over the chords.....

I start messing around with Wave a couple of weeks ago and love the way it works on mando. I also picked up Four by Miles Davis on guitar and have been messing with it on mando. I love the way the melody fits so cleverly against the chords with these types of songs.

Minor swing is a deffinate jammer. I usually play the startin melody line and then just throw in whatever sounds good. Fun tune.
