whenever i really start wailing on my mando, the first a string tunes up a little, i tried it several times and the same thing happens.
A) how does this work?
B) how do i stop it?

I've noticed the same thing on certain strings and know the string could be sticking on the nut or bridge and when it lets go the note goes sharp. I've also noticed that my mando is much more sensitive to temperature changes than my guitars. I also found it is easier to keep my mando in tune with heaver strings than with lighter ones.
How do you stop it? Try making sure the slots in your nut and bridge are the right size and lube them with graphite. Also, you should tune up to the note rather than down to it.
Good luck.

yep, i took a pencil and drew in the nut slots and the bridge slots, all better, thanks for the tip.

If it slips in the bridge/nut, it would go flat.....
bdisp,
It would only go flat it you tuned down to the note from above it. If you are coming up to the note and it binds in the nut slot when it lets go it will go above the pitch.
