I would love to see them win too, even though the arnt doing what I would call straight foward bluegrass it would be great for a "bluegrass" band to win at the CMA's. I always though bluegrass harmonys just can't be beat.

I hate to admit it but I own a Rascal Flatts Cd.....ok...beat me.....the only reason I bought it is for the song "God Blessed The Broken Road".....which I think is a very pretty tune.

"country" just ain't country anymore. THe only one I've heard ina long time that I'm real impressed with is Brad Paisley. That boy can skin a guitar! He is amazing and has a good since of humor to boot. I was listning to one of his albums about a year ago on the way to Nashville with a friend of mine and this instrumental tune came on and sombody was tearing the strings of an acustic guitar and I thought "that must be Brian Sutton" so I opend the case and it was Brad! He's talented but I don't have much to say for most of the others these days.

Today's paradigm:
Country Music = Pop Music.
Give a listen to Larry Cordle & LST playin' Murder On Music Row...
Scotti Adams Posted ...I mean..they are not country...
They're not really bluegrass either but they're probably closer to country than most of the other #### that comes out of Nashville these days.

GVD........Right on!
I will be very pleased if AKUS win. That will be another bluegrass or bluegrass type artist that gets more exposure to the media. Im all for it. And i will sadly admit that i also have a Rascal Flatts cd. It doesnt go in the player much but those young fellars can sing. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

..yea they can sing...I realize that it takes varied taste to appreciate them....they have great harmony....ok..I will stop now....hey....I listen to all kinds of music....lol
I think we have figured out a good new topic. "Most embarrasing cd's you own". Ha Ha
Kenny Chesney was in the bluegrass music program at East Tennessee State in years past, I think. For what it's worth I think he's a good singer too, and if you're looking at candidates for a straight "vocalist" award, I would put him alongside Alison Krauss. He wouldn't be up for "Vocal Group" though of course.
Also I thought that the duet single that Brad Paisley and Alison Krauss had ("whiskey lullaby") was pretty good. There is a lot of top level talent in country music, but the production style seems off-putting to a lot of people.
Im surprised a old 70s rock band didnt win country artist of the year.

More power to em. They're in a tough spot. Some "country" fans (and country "stars") hate em because they're not "country" they're ALL great musicians, and they get recognition.
Die hard grassers "ban" them because they're professionals and have shown up on Ellen and backed up Shania Twain,etc....
They can't win for losing, so I say......they deserve anything and everything they get.

Have to agree with you Jeff, and I still wonder why AKUS would even bother to appear on the Ellen Degenerate Show. They don't need to do that for recognition and they surely, don't need the $$$ that badly.
Off the subject, Jeff; did you know that Kevin Decker has joined Southern Lite, an excellent Jacksonville, FL-based bluegrass band?
Based on the live performance of AKUS I attended last year, there is in reality two bands in one. One is a great hard-driving tasteful BG band when the musicians are turned loose to show their talent;the other is AK and her sidemen playing the slow, soulful(IMHO sickening)pop vocals that unfortunately make the money.

If you really want to hear them do more traditional 'Grass listen to that "Tyminski Fella's CD". It is basically Union Station doing Bluegrass. I personally think that Dan is a better vocalist than Alison. The whole band woould be better if Alison played Fiddle and did harmony for Tyminski. But that's just my 2 cents.
I will have to disagree about the part that Dan is a better singer then Alison. Alison has one of the most beatiful voices in music.

Maybe "Kid Rock"? LOL.
New "country" is terrible. Rascal Flatts hurts my ears. Country boy bands. Yuk.

I haven't bought the cd yet, but I ought to.....just for the way Allison looks on the cover. Is it a Rhonda/Allison showdown?

IMHO....Alison outlooks, Outsings, and outpicks Rhonda 7days a week....But I do wish she would get back to the "more bluegrassy" sound.Unfortunately she has fallen into that Nashville thing who doesnt want her sounding like she did 10 years ago.
