I sent Don a body, neck, finger board, and nut. He found a Regal bridge I bought. I could not let this mando stay in the state it was in. I'll try some B-4 shots.

Don put his major MOJO on the mando. I am so excited to have this jewel. Don has restored this to the glory it deserves.

Tone, you ask??? I describe it as a cross between a vintage Gibson oval/carved top mando and a Martin herringbone guitar. It has the oval mando sound and the unique charicteristics of a pre-war D-28. Haunting and magical. I play mostly old time tunes on the mando. It fits right in with a very open & woody sound. Bonapart's Retreat never sounded so good.

I've emailed Don to post after pics. (where ya at?) The during restoration and after pics I have are TOO big to post, or I'm not smart enuff to figure out how. I shall continue to try.......this 'puter ain't gonna kick MY butt http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif

A quick thought: how 'bout this for a DIY channel programming idea -- a show that walks you through the process of restoring older instruments? *

* Were it on MTV instead of DIY, they might very well call it "Pimp My Axe" (Perhaps they could feature Antonio Tsai as a guest luthier with one of his famous inlay jobs! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif )

My wife wants to know if Don could restore an old worn out husband to the same level as this mandolin? I don't know what he charged, but you now certainly have a real jewel.
