Just a "heads up" for anyone in the NY/NJ/CT area that A. Lawrence Smart ( http://smart-instruments.com/ )will be giving a talk on the process he uses to craft his spectacular instruments in Poughkeepsie, NY. He'll have a few examples of his work with him and, as this will be a "homecoming" of sorts for him and an opportunity for him to meet with many of his NY area clients there will be plenty of other examples of Smart mandolins (and their happy owners) on hand. If you build 'em or play 'em, this is an event you shouldn't miss! BG jam afterwards ...
Here are the details ...

Lawrence Smart on Building Mandolins and Guitars
Lawrence Smart began building guitars and mandolins full time in 1986 and since that time he has built over 170 guitars and mandolin family instruments. His workload consists primarily of one-of-a-kind custom instruments, each constructed for individual musicians to their exacting requirements. He has built instruments for some of today's
finest stringed instrument musicians, including Mike Marshall, Matt Flinner, John Reischman, Nick Forster, and others. He lives in the west-central mountains of Idaho where he skis, hikes, fishes, and searches for fine Engelmann spruce tone wood for his creations. He'll have on hand some examples, both new and old of his work.
Note:
As always come to jam. There will be several Smart Mandolins in attendance. Pirate Canoe Club is now a Smoke Free space.
