View Full Version : I dreamed about my Mandolin last night

Maybe it was because I was watching mandolin videos, maybe it was because I drove over 300 miles this weekend listening to nothing but bluegrass on the car stereo...maybe it was because I was supposed to get it yesterday, but it was President's Day and I wasn't at work to receive it.

My guitar knows something's up, too, because I haven't put it down in days...pre-mando guilt I suppose.

This is all to be expected, is it not?

I enjoy when I dream about my mando because usually in my dreams I can actually play it. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

Okay, it's good to know I'm not the only one who dreams of mandolins...by the way, my one just arrived at my office. She's so pretty...I can't wait to get home and give her the attention she deserves. Big thanks to fatt-dad! You rock!

By the way, I'm listening to Hot Buttered Rum String Band right now, and they do a version of Elton John's "Rocket Man" I think everyone should hear. You can find the whole show HERE! (http://www.archive.org/audio/etree-details-db.php?id=18492) in lossless .shn format, or download individual songs in .mp3 (just don't share mp3s with your friends). This show was from a Family Camp jam last fall...also check out their other shows for download...they're really a treat to watch.

Thanks for putting up with my insanity...I'll be even weirder as soon as I start making tolerable music with my new mandolin. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Darthstar, I have been listining and playing bluegrass for over 30 years and I still dream about the music and my instruments. So, if you have not been dreaming about these things for 30+ years yet, don't worry. It's when all that time goes by and you still dream about it that you should start to worry.

It's ok to dream about our mandos, just not if the dream involves your wife selling them. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

I had a mando nightmare last week in which my band was getting on stage to perform and I was neither dressed to perform or could I find my instrument. It was scary. Last summer I was running late to a gig that was a lot further than I allowed time for. I was on the cell phone with my guitarist who along with the rest of the band was waiting for me to arrive. I asked him if the mando player from the other band could sit in for a couple of songs till I arrived. It turned out that the other band was okay going on first so I had time to warmup with the band before our set. I felt really bad about showing up last minute but it all turned out alright. For a while I was hoping it was a dream.

If you dreamed you were somewhere in NY with a store full of Teen's Gibsons and Loars, and you were allowed to play all of them and take the ones you like. Then go back to sleep. :)If it had clowns and chainsaws and stuff and your mando lol.I would take a bunch of pictures of your mando and send them to gruhn get an appraisal,(I highly approve , worth 35 easily) Then call insurance and get Life insurance on your baby.

I just wish i could get some sleep. Uggh goin down the road feelin bad as they say >

I used to hear that you did not need as much sleep as you aged.

What they did not tell me is that you can not sleep as you get older.

Okay, I was out sick the yesterday, but it is refreshing to see that I'm not the only person who dreams about 'his instrument' (not to get too Freudian here).

There is one nice thing about being sick...a realistic life schedule: sleep/play mandolin/sleep/play mandolin, play guitar so it doesn't feel neglected/sleep/play mandolin...

I've got Yankee Doodle (don't laugh) and most of Oh Susanna down already, too! And it'll be a long road to get where I want to get on this thing...but god she sounds pretty. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif
